  Have you ever imagined dyeing fabrics using only leaves, roots, and fruits? 🌿 We’re joining Sara Florindo for an afternoon of discovery: we’ll prepare the fibers through mordanting and explore Shibori — the art of folding, twisting, and tying fabrics to create unique and one-of-a-kind designs. Sara is an architect with a background in education who has always been passionate about textile art. She taught herself to sew and, for about 8 years, has dedicated herself to sewing, patternmaking, and natural dyeing. Along the way, she realized that this world has its roots in the history of the women in her family—her grandmothers and great-grandmothers who worked with linen from Beira Alta, from the fields to the loom. This knowledge wasn’t passed down to her directly, but Sara set out to rediscover it and breathe new life into it in her workshops.   Introduction to Woodcarving

  Ricardo Marques is a self-taught artisan and artist, and the founder of the Elfic Woodworks project, which is dedicated to wood sculpture and handcrafted woodwork. His work stems from a direct relationship with the material, where each piece is hand-carved, respecting the wood’s natural rhythm and revealing simple, organic, and vibrant forms. In his workshops, he shares not only woodcarving techniques but also a sensitive approach to hands-on creation, inviting each participant to slow down, feel, and create with mindfulness.   A few months ago I noticed something in my body I couldn't ignore - tension I'd been carrying so long I'd stopped registering it as tension at all. When I sat with it, I realized it wasn't really about the body. I was gripping - onto money, onto people, onto anything precious - bracing like it would disappear the moment I relaxed. This is the first of three sessions in HELD, a workshop trilogy for women exploring where the body holds, and why.   Full Moon Stone Circle Ceremony

  On Monday June 29, we gather close to where the Mira River and the Atlantic Ocean meet for a guided Stone Circle Ceremony under the full moon. At the centre of our gathering lies a Crystal Stone Circle: a contemporary ceremonial field inspired by the ancient wisdom of stone circles: sacred patterns that connect earth, sky, direction, rhythm and human awareness. As we attune to this field through stillness, sound, breath and attention, space opens for reflection, inner listening and intuitive guidance. The evening includes a brief introduction to the wisdom of stone circles, an AUM meditation, a card reflection and a personal consultation with the Crystal Stone Circle. A different artist arrives each morning and leads a workshop in their own craft: artstone, a collective painting which will be the table cloth, collage, cork and wood, driftwood, meditative drawing, movement. You do not book the whole two weeks. You book the days that call you, one at a time. No experience is needed anywhere in the programme, and most people who come have never called themselves artists. What you make does not go home with you that evening. It stays in the house for the rest of the programme, so the rooms hold more work every day, until the Open House on 27 August when it all hangs together.   🎨🖌️🫟 THE ART SPACE RESIDENCY 🎨🖌️🫟 Come for one day of creation, a couple of days or the whole package! Thirteen days. Nine artists. One house in the Alentejo, and everything made in it stays on the walls From 15 to 27 August, the Art Space Hotel becomes a place where something is created every single day. A different artist arrives each morning and leads a workshop in their own craft: artstone, a collective painting which will be the table cloth, collage, cork and wood, driftwood, meditative drawing, movement. You do not book the whole two weeks. You book the days that call you, one at a time. No experience is needed anywhere in the programme, and most people who come have never called themselves artists. What you make does not go home with you that evening. It stays in the house for the rest of the programme, so the rooms hold more work every day, until the Open House on 27 August when it all hangs together.
