Portraits of Difficult Days 24/7 | Photography by Nuno Pinto Fernandes

Cas - Exhibition Center (central foyer, Level -1) | Monday through Friday, 2:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.; Saturday, 12:00 PM–6:00 PM A one-thousandth-of-a-second snapshot of the dedication of every informal caregiver to their caregiving—24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. A visual and documentary manifesto that sheds light on the often-invisible reality of informal caregivers. The exhibition is the result of a challenge launched by the Biopsychosocial Care Team for the Elderly of the Municipality of Alfândega da Fé, with the goal of giving a face, a voice, and dignity to those who set aside their own lives to care for others. Comprising 72 photographs, the collection documents the daily lives of patients and their caregivers in various locations throughout the municipality of Alfândega da Fé, capturing moments of extreme exhaustion, but also of deep affection. Nuno Pinto Fernandes is a Portuguese photojournalist recognized for his work that emphasizes human connection and documentary rigor. Throughout his career, he has covered major national and international events, with a particular focus on the humanitarian refugee crisis in Europe.

As part of the collection’s national touring program, this exhibition offers a sensitive and expansive interpretation of the imagery associated with summer, taking as its starting point the experience of beach life and the forms of social interaction, leisure, and belonging that it evokes. Structured around thematic clusters—ranging from the human and the animal to imaginary geographies and bodies in suspension— the exhibition invites reflection on the permeability of identities and spaces, drawing upon instinctive, utopian, and sensory dimensions. At the same time, it is part of a framework of itinerancy and institutional collaboration, reinforcing CACE’s commitment to the circulation of artistic heritage and the expansion of its contexts of reception. In parallel with this exhibition, the curatorial program will include an education and outreach project titled “Silly Season,” focused on communication and access to contemporary art through training sessions grounded in initiatives that address contemporary themes in an engaging and appealing way. The result of a partnership between Museus e Monumentos de Portugal, e.p.e. and the Municipality of Sines, the exhibition is the result of a project developed within the framework of the Portuguese Contemporary Art Network (Directorate-General for the Arts), in partnership with the Sines Arts Center and mudas – Madeira Museum of Contemporary Art. Scale sculpture exhibition

🎨 From May 30 to June 27, the Sines Arts Center will host the exhibition “Escala,” featuring sculptures by João Castro Silva. The exhibition brings together a collection of sculptures built on relationships of weight, support, and balance, where wooden logs, structures, and human figures create compositions marked by physical tension and interaction with the surrounding space. More than a fixed measurement, scale emerges here as a relationship between the artwork, the visitor’s body, and the exhibition space. 📆 May 30 to June 27 📍 Sines Arts Center - CAS Atrium and Exhibition Center Foyer 🕔 Opening: May 30, at 5:00 p.m. Organized by: Municipality of Sines João Castro Silva is a sculptor and associate professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, where he teaches in the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programs in Sculpture.

Sculpture | Scale, by João Castro Silva

Cas - cas Atrium and Exhibition Center Foyer | Opening: May 29, 6:00 p.m. | Organized by CMS A series of sculptures organized around relationships of weight, support, and balance. The works are composed of distinct elements—solid wooden logs, structures, and human figures—that are arranged in configurations where the support and the load do not coincide in a stable manner. The figures are placed atop volumes, creating situations of physical tension between the elements. The work focuses on how these relationships define the sculptures’ presence in space. Scale is understood as a relationship between the work, the visitor’s body, and the exhibition space, rather than as a fixed measurement. João Castro Silva is a sculptor and associate professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (FBAUL), where he teaches in all three levels of study—Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate—of the Sculpture program. He earned his Bachelor’s and Doctorate degrees at the same faculty.
