the city of Sines will host another edition of m.a.r. on September 12, 13 and 14. - Street Arts Exhibition, this year featuring 20 artistic projects from nine countries in the areas of circus, dance, performance, music and installation.

m.a.r. is an initiative with artistic direction and production by Teatro do Mar, co-production by Sines City Council and support from the Directorate-General for the Arts / Ministry of Culture. This edition has the support of the Institut Ramón Llull (es).

The project's artistic director, Julieta Aurora Santos, explains that "at a time when the world is torn by conflicts, generalized impotence and alienation, m.a.r. - Mostra de Artes de Rua stands as a breath of resistance and shared beauty."

"The street, a common territory," says Julieta Aurora Santos, "is transformed into a listening stage where art challenges indifference. we need to act, add up, generate empathy. we urgently need to nourish hope, and nourish all our strength, in order to keep alive the dignity and value of human life. we need to continue to persist, to disturb, to contribute, to transform."

In 2025, m.a.r. will once again occupy different parts of the city, especially the historic center (the Castle, squares and adjoining streets) and the seafront (Avenida Vasco da Gama, Vasco da Gama Beach, the Bicas Velhas ramp and the marina). the exhibition will also extend to the northern part of the city (Alameda da Paz, where the Jardim das Artes will be, and outside the old Railway Station). the Capela da Misericórdia is the only indoor space in the exhibition.

"Spread across different parts of the city, m.a.r. creates a living cartography, a deep connection to the territory - geographical and human. Each place in the public space becomes a meeting point where art occupies, summons, disturbs and unites. Shelter in a time of ruins, it is in the encounter that isolation is broken: an affirmation that culture is a right, proximity a political gesture, and the collective the only possible way out," says Julieta Aurora Santos.

This year, m.a.r. is hosting companies and artists from Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Finland and Japan.

Admission is free to all shows.
