Be part of a new choir in ALENTEJO!

Imagine a choir combining festival vibes, parties and electronic music, performing right on the dance floor.

The body isn’t fully singing until the voice joins in. Floor Chor wants to encourage you to free your voice, not think too much about how it sounds, but really focus on how it feels.

This October, we’re planting the first seeds of Floor Chor Alentejo.
⠀
We will have 5 rehearsals where we sing, dance, improvise and build a repertoire together. Afterwards, we’ll throw a party, invite our friends and perform what we have learned.

But the vision goes beyond these first rehearsals. We want to keep coming together for intensive choir weeks and retreats, deepen our repertoire, build a community and then take the choir to parties, festivals and Burns around Portugal. Flamingo, Goat Festival... anything is possible.

And this isn’t completely new. Floor Chor started in Cologne, Germany, where we are now around 100 singers and have performed at festivals and clubs across Germany. If you’re curious what that looks like, check us out on Instagram:

The bigger vision is to grow one Floor Chor community that reaches beyond borders. Maybe soon you’ll come to Germany and perform with the Cologne Floor Chor at a club or festival, and singers from Cologne will come to Portugal and sing with you. We all know the same repertoire, so wherever we meet, we can sing together.

Hi, I’m Max, and my soul vibrates when people come together and sing. It has been my passion and honour to conduct choirs for the past 15 years. Today, i lead four choirs with around 250 singers in Cologne. There is something about the combination of community, music and the sound of voices coming together in harmony that really touches me. i come into flow when i do it.

An important part of my rehearsals is body awareness, exploring the flexibility of our voices, but also self acceptance. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about enjoying the process, being curious about what our voices can do and experiencing the bliss of hearing what we can create together.

I truly believe that singing is medicine and that singing in a choir can teach us something about how we come together as human beings: in collaboration, peace and harmony.
