Ourique Once Again Hosts the Technical Conference on Sheep Production
Producers, technicians, researchers, and representatives from organizations in the sheep industry will gather in Ourique on June 24 and 25, for the 5th edition of the Technical Conference on Sheep Production.
The initiative, organized by ProOvis with support from the Municipality of Ourique, CEBAL, and other partner organizations, will take place at the Sousa Telles Cinema-Theater and will feature seminars, technical sessions, demonstrations, and tastings of sheep products.
Under the theme “Resilience and Innovation,” this year’s edition spans two days of activities: the first dedicated to the production and value addition of sheep’s milk, and the second focused on the challenges of sheep production.
The program opens on the afternoon of June 24 with a session dedicated to the production and value addition of sheep’s milk, addressing various aspects of the activity—from genetics to milk quality, farm management, and processing.
In the late afternoon, Largo d. Dinis will host an event open to the public, dedicated to promoting sheep-derived products, featuring a cooking demonstration, musical performances, lamb on a spit, and tastings of traditional products.
On June 25, the conference continues with a technical seminar focused on sheep production, covering topics such as precision livestock farming, digital innovation, animal health, water management, and farm productivity and profitability.
The Technical Conference on Sheep Production reinforces Ourique’s role as a region linked to animal production, the rural economy, and the promotion of local products, fostering connections between technical knowledge, innovation, sustainability, and the economic development of the sheep sector.
