MORE THAN AN EXHIBITION, A MOVEMENT.
SOUTH | Specters Beyond the Tagus is part of the AMS–50 commemorative cycle, produced in partnership with Konsolidarte Internacional, Cultivamos Cultura and Herdade da Matinha. It is also the result of a proposal by the Santiago do Cacém City Council, as part of a broader strategy to enhance the artistic, natural, and intangible heritage of the Alentejo Litoral.
The exhibition extends across several emblematic spaces from Herdade da Matinha in Cercal do Alentejo to Santiago do Cacém: the Municipal Museum, the Town Hall, the Auditorium, the Castle, Rua Egas Moniz, and Travessa de S. Sebastião
This dispersion is not accidental, but a deliberate gesture: to take art to the streets, to the community, to give back to the land what was received from it, because it is in the soil that everything begins and everything ends. It is a way of breaking down physical and symbolic barriers, sharing Alfredo's work with everyone, in the heart of the city.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a wide-ranging parallel program designed to amplify its message in time and space: educational activities with schools and
universities; debates and workshops on art, territory, and ecology; artistic residencies and participatory actions both at Herdade da Matinha and other partner venues.
This is a collective process that extends Alfredo's own philosophy: that we are all nature and that nature is us. And that, as an integral part of the same ecosystem, we all share the same responsibilities: to create, share, and regenerate.
