This is a gentle outdoor morning practice held at the river beach in Vila Nova de Milfontes, drawing on movement to wake the body, breath practices and Qigong to regulate the nervous system, and pranayama and meditation to arrive in stillness and presence. No single tradition, just a mix of what works, adapted week to week.
Each session is about an hour. Afterwards, those who want to can go into the river. The swim is optional, but it tends to be worth it.
What to expect in a session
The practice follows a loose structure that varies week to week, but broadly moves through these phases:
- Arrival and grounding: a few minutes to land, feel the ground, and transition from wherever you came from
- Gentle movement: joint mobility, flowing sequences, and coordination work to warm the body without strain
- Breath and Qigong: breath practices and Qigong movement patterns to build energy and quiet the mind
- Pranayama and meditation: breath techniques and stillness practice to settle the nervous system and bring clarity
- River swim (optional): those who want to go in the water are welcome to. Bring swimwear if you’d like to join.
- No prior experience with any of these practices is needed. If you can breathe, you can do this.
