Literary Fall 2026 | Meeting with Author Ondjaki

🍁 On October 24, at 4:00 p.m., the Manuel José “do Tojal” Municipal Library in Vila Nova de Santo André will host a Meeting with Writer Ondjaki, as part of the “Literary Fall 2026” series.

The session will be dedicated to Ondjaki’s work and literary career and will be moderated by João Morales.

Ondjaki, the pen name of Ndalu de Almeida, is a renowned Angolan writer, poet, and filmmaker born in Luanda in 1977. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Lisbon and a Ph.D. in African Studies, and was the winner of the José Saramago Literary Prize for his novel “Os Transparentes.” His works focus on childhood, memories of Luanda, and Angolan reality, characterized by sensitive writing that has earned him international acclaim.

    Literary Fall | Music Among Books “Bridges in the Alentejo” 🍁 The event will take place on October 23, at 9:30 p.m., at the Manuel José “do Tojal” Municipal Library in Vila Nova de Santo André, the “Music Among Books: Bridges in the Alentejo” event by Duo vbh, part of the “Literary Fall 2026” series. The duo’s concert builds musical bridges between Brazil, Latin America, Germany, and the Alentejo. “Pontes” is a journey both outward—across cultures, continents, compositions, eras, and musical landscapes—and inward—exploring adult complexity, childlike simplicity, a child’s seriousness, and an adult’s playfulness. The unusual combination of these two instruments treats us to surprising sounds.

    "Equality in Your Hands" Walk

    As part of the celebration of Municipal Equality Day, the “Equality in Your Hands” walk will take place on October 25 at 9:00 a.m. in Vila Nova de Santo André (next to the carnation statue in Central Park). This initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of equality, inclusion, and respect for diversity, promoting a more just and inclusive community. Participation requires registration by October 16. Contact and registration locations: In person – Social Intervention and Health Service (Parque Verde da Quinta dos Chafariz, Santiago do Cacém), Santo André Parish Social Commission (Santo André Parish Council), and Social Commission of the Union of Parishes of Santiago do Cacém, Santa Cruz, and São Bartolomeu da Serra (Santiago do Cacém, Santa Cruz, and São Bartolomeu da Serra Branch Offices), or by calling 269829418.
