❗Change to the July EmCena performance
Please be advised that the July performance of the EmCena series, as announced in the “Sines em Agenda” publication, has been changed due to the illness of a member of the Teatro dos Aloés team.
Therefore, instead of “My Sweet Orange Tree,” Teatro dos Aloés will present the play “A Camaleoa” at the Sines Arts Center on July 9 at 9:30 p.m.
Directed by Elsa Valentim, this new production by the company features a script by Carolina Campanela that explores power dynamics through the daily life of a theater troupe.
Synopsis: “César decides to stage *Julius Caesar*. But, just as in the Roman Republic, power corrodes relationships here as well. As rehearsals progress, discontent blossoms: actors who want to be more than just actors, interns who refuse to remain invisible. Everyone is seeking their place in the sun.
They legitimately risk climbing the ladder and succeeding in a profession built on dedication, yet marked by precariousness and the promise of recognition.
But what, after all, lies at the top of those promises? And is there really a top, or is it just an endless matryoshka doll with ever-increasing layers?"
The EmCena festival is organized by the Ajagato Association, in partnership with the municipalities of Sines and Santiago do Cacém

Throughout the month of August, the “Noites no Largo” initiative presents the play “A Bilha Quebrada,” performed by Baal17—the Baixo Alentejo Educational Theater Company—which will tour various locations in the municipality between August 13 and 30 at 9:30 p.m., in Alvalade, Costa de Santo André, Cercal do Alentejo, Vale de Água, Cruz de João Mendes, Abela, Santiago do Cacém, Ermidas-Sado, Santa Cruz, Vila Nova de Santo André, São Domingos, and São Bartolomeu da Serra. The Santiago do Cacém City Council, with the support of the parish councils, aims through this touring initiative to provide the public with free street theater performances, as part of a clear commitment to cultural decentralization. Musical procession through the streets of each town – 9:00 p.m. | Start of the show – 9:30 p.m. In a village court, Dona Marta demands justice: someone broke into her daughter Eva’s room during the night and smashed her favorite jug. Adão, the authoritarian and corrupt judge, prepares to settle the case for his own benefit, but as luck would have it, on that very day he receives a visit from an inspector from the city.
