One of the main constraints to the ecological restoration of dune habitats are invasive exotic species, especially the beach weevil and acacias. The presence of these invasive species puts the resilience of these valuable dune habitats at risk, as well as competing directly with endemic species, some of which are classified as endangered in the Red Book of the Vascular Flora of Portugal. This activity aims to replicate some of the ecological restoration actions of the Zimbral for life project in the municipality of Odemira.

This initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Odemira in partnership with Rewilding Sudoeste - Associação de Desenvolvimento da Natureza e Ambiente, as part of the Blue Flag Program, whose theme for 2025 is "Restoring Nature".
