7th Sabores do Borrego Festival
Santiago do Cacém is the guest municipality in 2026
The municipality of Santiago do Cacém in the Baixo Alentejo region is the guest of the 7th edition of the Sabores do Borrego Festival, which takes place from March 27 to 29 in Castro Verde.
Renowned for its strong agricultural tradition, Santiago do Cacém is known for sheep farming, particularly the Merino breed, and is part of the certified production area of Borrego do Baixo Alentejo IGP, a symbol of quality and authenticity in regional cuisine.
The municipality on the Alentejo coast, located in the district of Setúbal and with around 28,000 inhabitants, reinforces its agricultural identity every year with Santiagro, one of the most important events in the sector in the region.
The 7th edition of the Sabores do Borrego Festival will also feature the participation of ads Litoral Alentejano – Defesa Sanitária dos Criadores de Bovinos, Ovinos e Caprinos do Litoral Alentejano (Alentejo Coast Animal Health Defense Association), reinforcing the importance of animal health and technical support in enhancing the livestock sector.
After São Brás de Alportel, Castelo Branco, Oliveira do Hospital, and Sousel, Castro Verde's invitation to the Municipality of Santiago do Cacém reinforces the regional dimension of the Sabores do Borrego Festival and its commitment to promoting the excellence of local products, pastoral tradition, and the sustainable development of rural areas.
