The Blue of the Algarve

Espaço + will open the exhibition “The Blue of the Algarve” by artist Kerstin Wagner on March 27. The exhibition will be open to the public until May 8, 2026.

Inspired by the intense light of the Algarve, the turquoise of the sea, and the deep blue of the sky, Kerstin Wagner explores the expressive power of color and the complementarity between opposites—dynamism and meditation, movement and harmony. Her works, which include water and sea scenes in watercolor and acrylic, as well as compositions—sometimes circular—in pure blue pigments, create a visual experience marked by depth, luminosity, and serenity.

Born near Cologne, Germany, the artist earned a degree in Fine Arts in Bonn/Alfter and completed her training in Art and Social Development at the Alanus Art Academy. With over 200 exhibitions held since 1987, primarily in Europe and Asia, she also stood out for her participation in the international artist residency in Goa in 2015, having exhibited at the Goa Museum (mog) in 2016.

Recognized for the intensity, power, and versatility of her painting, Kerstin Wagner finds an essential source of inspiration in her travels.

It is precisely from this experience of movement—from this attentive gaze that traverses geographies and cultures—that a body of work is born, deeply marked by the sensory experience of places.

In “The Blue of the Algarve,” color transforms into space, emotion, and identity, celebrating the region’s unique landscape and atmosphere.

On March 27, Galeria do Espaço + will open the exhibition “The Blue of the Algarve” by German artist Kerstin Wagner.

In this exhibition, the artist explores the power and depth of blue, drawing inspiration from the Algarve’s brilliant light, the turquoise hue of the sea, and the intense blue of the sky.
