Synopsis: The Italian Youth Orchestra of the Ossola Valley, also known as gmo, was founded in 2001 based on an idea by conductor Alberto Lanza to give talented young musicians the opportunity to experience ensemble music for the first time, combining wind instruments, strings, percussion, and digital instruments into a single ensemble. Over the past 25 years, gmo has performed nearly 500 concerts throughout Europe, and during its tour of Portugal, it will present its new repertoire, “Musica senza confini” (Music Without Borders), a true musical journey—from Japan to Hungary, from Greece to Mexico, from the Middle East to Africa—to show that music is the only language that can be understood without study, and that it can overcome hatred and indifference.

“People of Santiago do Cacém – Disappearing Professions”

Synopsis: The ACCSSC—Cultural and Social Association of Santiago do Cacém—presents examples of professions that make little sense today: dressmakers, shoemakers, tailors, pavers, and tinsmiths. There are others as well, such as millers, coopers, and telephone operators… But these are skills that must be respected and preserved, not least because we may one day need to revive them. And which professions will be the next to disappear? Which others will be needed in the near future?
