The Garvão Fair returns from May 8 to 10 with the xxx Agricultural Exhibition

This event, with centuries-old roots, marks three decades of the Agricultural Exhibition, a cornerstone in promoting the agricultural sector and affirming the rural identity of the municipality of Ourique.

The village of Garvão, in the municipality of Ourique, will host another edition of the Garvão Fair from May 8 to 10, which includes the xxx Agricultural Exhibition. The event is organized by the Municipality of Ourique, in partnership with the Association of Alentejo Pig Breeders (ACPA) and the Garvão Parish Council. Admission is free.

Los Romeros are the main highlight on Friday night, May 8. The lineup continues on Saturday (9) with Mickael Carreira, who takes the stage to energize the audience, and wraps up the weekend on Sunday (10) with entertainment by Jorge Guerreiro. The musical program also includes other performances and entertainment throughout the three days, reinforcing the event’s popular and intergenerational appeal.

Over three days, the Garvão Fair presents a diverse program, bringing together producers, breeders, experts, artisans, and visitors at an event that celebrates the rural world, agricultural production, tradition, and the region’s identity.

In addition to livestock exhibitions, livestock competitions, initiatives aimed at schools, producer meetings, conferences, and lectures dedicated to the Garvonesa Cattle Breed, the Alentejana Pig Breed, Alentejo Beef, and Portuguese wool, the program also includes cooking demonstrations, auctions, tastings, and equestrian shows, as well as demonstrations of crafts, traditional singing, gastronomy, bullfighting traditions, and musical entertainment.

In 1995, the Municipality of Ourique promoted the revival and enhancement of the event, following a local initiative, by introducing the Agricultural Exhibition as a response to the need to revitalize the fair, adding an exhibition, technical, and organizational dimension that reinforced its relevance in the contemporary context. The 2026 edition thus marks the 30th anniversary of this component, reflecting a three-decade journey of revitalization, modernization, and strengthening of ties to the agricultural sector.

The Garvão Fair is an agricultural exhibition that brings together producers, experts, and enthusiasts from the rural world to celebrate the region’s traditions and productive potential. Organized by the Municipality of Ourique, in partnership with ACPA and the Garvão Parish Council, the initiative aims to promote the exchange of knowledge, boost the local economy, and preserve the region’s cultural roots.

From May 8 to 10, Garvão once again establishes itself as a meeting place for the rural world.
