The Book Festival is back!

On June 26, 27, and 28, the 5th edition of the Book Festival will take place, inspired this year by the theme “Ode to Nature.”

A celebration of literature, culture, and our connection to nature, organized by the Caixa Agrícola Costa Azul Foundation, in partnership with the Santiago do Cacém City Council, and with the invaluable support of dozens of local organizations that have come together to make this event even more special.

Over the course of three days, the public can enjoy a diverse program for all ages:

Inaugural Parade of the Book Festival. ​

Opening of the “Dance in the Woods” Exhibition and Guided Tour with Artist Cristina Amado

This exhibition brings together unique, exclusive, and large-scale works based on sustainability and visual poetry.

An invitation to immerse yourself in the universe of Cristina Amado, who, through Botanical Printing and Natural Dyeing, creates and communicates in the language of Organic and Natural fashion, thus conveying Gaia’s message.​

Two Maltese meet at night in an open field and interact, evoking situations from their wandering lives, memories of lost family, sorrows, quarrels, and the fate that made them Maltese from the Alentejo.

A band from the Alentejo coast that blends jazz, soul, and bossa nova into a warm and captivating sound.

    Theater – Nights at the Square – The Broken Jug

    Throughout the month of August, the “Noites no Largo” initiative presents the play “A Bilha Quebrada,” performed by Baal17—the Baixo Alentejo Educational Theater Company—which will tour various locations in the municipality between August 13 and 30 at 9:30 p.m., in Alvalade, Costa de Santo André, Cercal do Alentejo, Vale de Água, Cruz de João Mendes, Abela, Santiago do Cacém, Ermidas-Sado, Santa Cruz, Vila Nova de Santo André, São Domingos, and São Bartolomeu da Serra. The Santiago do Cacém City Council, with the support of the parish councils, aims through this touring initiative to provide the public with free street theater performances, as part of a clear commitment to cultural decentralization. Musical procession through the streets of each town – 9:00 p.m. | Start of the show – 9:30 p.m. In a village court, Dona Marta demands justice: someone broke into her daughter Eva’s room during the night and smashed her favorite jug. Adão, the authoritarian and corrupt judge, prepares to settle the case for his own benefit, but as luck would have it, on that very day he receives a visit from an inspector from the city. Register by August 7. 👉More information at: https://www.cm-santiagocacem.pt/investir/feiras-e-certames/feira-do-monte/ The Feira do Monte, one of the oldest fairs on the Alentejo coast, takes place at the Santiago do Cacém Fair and Exhibition Park and is organized by the Santiago do Cacém City Council. This fair dates back to the 16th century, when it was held around the old church of Nossa Senhora do Monte. Today, it showcases the rich heritage and culture of the municipality of Santiago do Cacém and serves as a showcase for the municipality’s artisans, producers, and institutions.
