Ourique Hosts the Opening Concert of the 4th Edition of GeraCante
The GeraCante 2026 project kicks off in Ourique on May 31 at 7:00 p.m. in the churchyard of Santa Maria. The concert combines Alentejo folk singing with orchestral music, in a meeting of tradition and modernity, involving children from different regions and backgrounds.
The Ourique Municipal Children’s Choir is participating for the second time in this national project, which is the result of a partnership between the Geração Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa Orchestra and the Children’s Choir of the Porta Nova School in Moura.
GeraCante brings together children from different regions through Alentejo folk singing and orchestral music, promoting arts education, musical training, the appreciation of intangible cultural heritage, and sharing among children from diverse backgrounds.
In Ourique, the concert will feature the Orquestra Geração Santa Casa, the Children’s Choir of the Porta Nova School in Moura, the Children’s Choir of the Municipality of Ourique, and the Orquestra Geração Évora Planícies as a guest ensemble.
Following the opening in Ourique, the GeraCante schedule continues with concerts in Moura on June 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Church of St. John the Baptist, and in Lisbon on July 4 at 6:00 p.m. at the National Pantheon.
Although not part of the 4th edition of GeraCante’s schedule, a concert is also planned in Évora on June 25 at 7:00 PM as part of the Feira de São João.
